Equipment

  • Microwave-safe bowl (or double boiler)
  • Spatula
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Sharp knife (for breaking the bark)

Ingredients

  • 2 cups high-quality dark or white chocolate chopped
  • 4-5 candy canes crushed
  • 1/4 cup holiday-themed sprinkles
  • 1/4 cup chopped nuts optional, such as almonds or pecans
  • 1/4 cup dried cranberries or other dried fruits

Instructions

Prepare Your Workspace:

  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking. Measure and prep all your ingredients before starting.

Melt the Chocolate:

  • Microwave Method: Place chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl and heat in 30-second intervals, stirring after each interval until melted and smooth.
  • Double Boiler Method: Heat water in a saucepan, place a heatproof bowl over it, and stir chocolate until melted.

Spread and Decorate:

  • Pour the melted chocolate onto the lined baking sheet. Spread it evenly with a spatula into a thin layer. While the chocolate is still warm, sprinkle the crushed candy canes, sprinkles, dried cranberries, and nuts evenly over the surface.

Chill the Bark:

  • Place the baking sheet in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour, or until the chocolate is completely set.

Break into Pieces:

  • Remove the bark from the refrigerator and carefully break it into irregular pieces using your hands or a sharp knife.

Serve or Store:

  • Enjoy immediately or store in an airtight container in a cool, dry place.

Notes

  • Chocolate: Use high-quality chocolate for the best flavor and texture. Couverture chocolate is ideal for a glossy finish.
  • Storage: Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks or freeze for up to 3 months.
  • Vegan Option: Substitute dairy-free chocolate and vegan toppings like nuts and dried fruits for a plant-based treat.
  • Flavor Enhancements: Add a drop of peppermint, orange, or almond extract to the melted chocolate for a unique twist.
